Uncle Nadal: ‘Federer will not win Grand Slam anymore’

Roger Federer will not win a Grand Slam next year. That is the opinion of Toni Nadal, the uncle and former trainer of rival Rafael Nadal.

I say that not because of its quality, but because of the power that a five-setter costs, “writes Nadal in his column for the Spanish newspaper El País. ,, I must admit that the Swiss has constantly surprised me.

Toni Nadal does see a threat on the horizon for the traditional top-3 from Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. The young German Alexander Zverev won the ATP Finals last weekend and climbed to fourth place on the ranking. ,, For a long time I doubted whether the youngsters could beat the grass game of Federer, the game of Djokovic on the hard courts or the game of Nadal on clay. And I have always thought that if the moment were there, it would come through the decline of one, and not through the rise of the other. The ATP Finals force me to think differently. ”

Two Italian tennis players suspended due to match fixing

The anti-corruption unit in tennis (TIU) has suspended two Italians for a long time because of match fixing and other violations of the rules against gambling practices. These are Daniele Bracciali (40) and Potito Starace (37).

Bracciali has been banned from tennis for life and received a fine of $ 250,000. Starace is not allowed to engage in tennis affairs for ten years. He must pay a fine of $ 100,000.

Both Italians were found guilty of illegal acts during the ATP tournament in Barcelona in April 2011.

Bracciali is currently in the hundredth place on the world ranking of doubles, with the 21st position as the highest ranking. Starace, who had already stopped with top tennis, reached his highest ranking in singles (27th) in October 2007.

The Italian tennis federation suspended the duo in August 2015 for a match fixation. That sentence was withdrawn a few months later. Starace was then released on appeal and the suspension of Bracciali was reduced to one year at the time.
